Filing is a gesture nobody makes under a deadline. So the captures pile up where they landed, named after the minute you took them, and the reference you need is somewhere in a folder you will never scroll.
Screenshot Detox does not ask you to file anything. It reads what is already there and makes it findable by the words inside the picture.
How it works
The app runs at login and stays out of the way. You only show up for the last one.
Watch
Point it at ~/Desktop, ~/Screenshots, or wherever your capture
tool drops files. It watches by filesystem event, not by polling — a new capture is
indexed one to three seconds after it lands, whether it came from ⌘⇧4 or CleanShot X.
Read
Apple's Vision framework reads the text out of each capture locally — the pricing table, the microcopy, the label on the chart. Spotlight does not do this for loose image files. We checked on macOS 26.6: zero results for words that are plainly there.
Recover
Search a phrase you remember, then drag the result straight into Figma, Slack, or the Finder. What lands is the original file at full resolution — the app keeps a bookmark to it and never hands you a downscaled copy.
Privacy
If you screenshot work under NDA, this is not a preference — it is the requirement. There is no account, no server, and no telemetry, because there is no networking layer in the app at all. That claim is checkable, and here it is being checked:
